What we would have spun in June 2023

Extraction 2, The Witcher volume 1, and a licensed Sunday of Spider-Man and Mean Girls. June 2023 was easy if you stopped listing every title.

The old June 2023 page was a coming list and a leaving list, plus a few posters. Extraction 2 and The Witcher season 3 were not even on it — the dump stopped at licensed June 1 titles. That is how you can tell a page was scraped and never edited.

The two originals that mattered

Extraction 2 (June 16) is the movie-night pick. Chris Hemsworth, long takes, no homework. Movies + high quality if the group wanted action and a stopping point. It is a poor series substitute: if someone wanted six hours of plot, this is the wrong result to “yes” out of politeness.

The Witcher season 3, volume 1 (June 29) was Henry Cavill’s last run of episodes, five of them, with volume 2 in July. Spin TV only if the room had already been with Geralt. A mid-season volume is a terrible discovery spin. If you were new, the wheel should have sent you to season 1 on Netflix, not to episode 3.01.

Black Mirror season 6 and Never Have I Ever’s final season also landed in June. Same rule as The Witcher: continuations are for people already in. They are noise on All.

June 1 was a licensed Sunday, and that is useful

On June 1 the U.S. catalog added Spider-Man (2002), Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3, Mean Girls (2004), Groundhog Day, The Breakfast Club, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Bruce Almighty, and We’re the Millers, among others.

That is a better random-movie pool than most original slates. High quality, movies, genre All or comedy. If the wheel hit Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 2, play it. If it hit The Angry Birds Movie from the same day’s drop, that is the filter telling you to pick a genre next time.

What left

U.S. leavers included Inception (which had only arrived in April), Galaxy Quest, Rango, Attack on Titan season 1, and Flushed Away. Catalogs churn. A title that is a June 1 hero can be a June 30 ghost. Do not build a personality around a licensed window.

How we would have spent the month

Weeknights before the 16th: licensed movies, high quality. The 16th onward: Extraction 2 if you wanted one film. After the 29th: The Witcher only as a planned binge, not as a random first date with the show.
